Boris Pahor exhibition opened in Brussels

“With his penetrating mentality and literary work, but above all with his life experience, he is for all of us an example of cooperation between nations, protection of the weakest, implementation of human rights and search for the truth,” this is the way the president of the SSO Walter Bandelj presented Boris Pahor at the opening of the exhibition on the writer from Trieste at the European Parliament in Brussels on 30 May 2023.

The exhibition was realised on the initiative of MEP Matjaž Nemec on the occasion of the first anniversary of the writer’s death. Both umbrella organisations, SKGZ and SSO, as well as the newspapers Primorske novice and Primorski dnevnik participated in the organisation of the event. SKGZ president Ksenija Dobrila, SSO president Walter Bandelj and the editor of the Primorski dnevnik newspaper Igor Devetak welcomed the attendees of the opening. European Commissioner Janez Lenarčič and MEPs Ljudmila Novak, Franc Bogovič and Herbert Dorfmann were also present. After the opening of the exhibition, a symposium was held at which Senator Tatjana Rojc, photographer and philosopher Evgen Bavčar, literary historian Urška Perenič and historian Marta Verginella spoke.

On Europe Day, celebrated on Tuesday May 9th, the Palazzo Veneziano in Malborghetto hosted the traditional Cantate concert, organised every year by the Confederation of Slovenian Organisations (SSO) in collaboration with the Union of Choirs of Trieste (ZCPZ).

The Elinor vocal group from Maribor performed, offering the audience an excellent concert of Slovenian and European music.

On behalf of the organisers, the president of SSO Walter Bandelj and the president of ZCPZ Trieste Rossana Paliaga addressed those present. In addition to the SSO and ZCPZ Trieste, the Blankin Association and the Cernet Association, the mayor of Naborjet Boris Presheren, the mayor of Resia and the committee for culture of the mountain community of Canal del Ferro and Valcanale Anna Micelli and regional councillor of SSk Marko Pisani were also present. The evening was coordinated and led by the young local from Ugovizza Elisa Kandutsch Lupieri.
